An Unknown Reason Discovered Purpose. Google defines it as “the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.” Upon looking at this definition, I had no idea how to go about explaining my purpose as a writer. Mainly I would write just to get an assignment done for a class. In the process of writing this, I found a journal given to me at the beginning of the year on my birthday. To my surprise, I actually had written some pieces in it. But why? Nobody read them and I totally forgot about them. So I thought, why did I even write them in the first place? Then it hit me. I write as a way to try and explain my thoughts, feelings, ideas and so much more. Since I’m not the best with words (verbally), writing seemed natural and a better alternative to talking. I look back at the pieces I wrote for class and for myself and each has its own purpose. In each piece however, I noticed each shared a common characteristic- a thought. A thought that wants to be noticed was what each contained. In Advanced Composition, phrases are given as assignments. What do I mean by that? I mean that we have the power to go any route we want and ride with the topic given to us and make it into a piece we can share. I liked that. No guidelines, no requirements. Just us, our thoughts, and our own unique spin. I wrote a poem titled “A Once Beautiful Soul.” At first I wondered if it was worth turning in because it seemed irrelevant to say the least.
