Nurse Aide Training My First Experience with My Patient by Rina Maldonado When I came to Sibley Hospital on my first day on December 10, 2012, I was super excited, but I also had other feelings such as being nervous and I also was afraid because I thought to myself, “What if the patients didn’t accept me?” Luckily it didn’t turn out like that. I introduced myself to my first patient, and she was so sweet. We started to talk about many things like our lives and where we came from, etc. From that point on I started to not be so nervous. I learned that when you talk to someone you engage in that feeling. And when they are talking to you they have an opportunity to express themselves. Once you talk to them and get to know them really well, then learn to have trust in you, and then you become trustworthy. The part that I really love is when I become trustworthy because the patients will come to you with their problem and you have the opportunity to help them. Sometimes patients are around 90 years old which means they are elderly and they don’t have children nor family to help them and that’s where I come in and help them succeed, but I don’t only do this because it’s part of my job, I do this because this is what I think is right and it makes me feel happy. While the days were passing I felt like that was my second home. I felt so secure there. I felt in the right place. I really felt happy when I saw a
