Each division of this now prestigious event attracts the finest
of regional surfers, and this year was no exception, with those
great surfers encompassed by a BBQ-in-the-park atmosphere,
quite reminiscent of a traditional Hawaiian-style approach to
a surf meet. The tempting smell of fresh grinds and the sounds
of laughter and friendship consume the space throughout the
event.
Mid morning a humpback whale glides into the line-up, gracefully
negotiating its way shore-side of the ominous shark nets and
sharing the line-up with a few more-than-accommodating
competitors ... such blissfully relaxed surfing framed by the bluest
of waters and abundance of fresh nature.
