OCTOBER 2019

THE LION'S ROAR

4

On September 26-27, the middle school students had the opportunity to spend two special retreat days together. These retreat days are always a blessing to the middle school students! On the first day of retreat, the middle school enjoyed a brief time of worship. The students looked at Psalm 47 and came up with as many attributes as they could about Jesus as a King. Soon after worshiping together, the middle schoolers headed to the Storrs Adventure Park where they had the opportunity to encourage others and challenge themselves as they attempted a variety of ropes courses.

The second day of retreat afforded students the opportunity to participate in some outdoor play before refocusing on the Lord. During the second half of the morning, there was more worship led by Mr. Sullivan and several students. After worshiping, students gathered together in groups and used their Bibles to brainstorm ways to be a loyal follower of Jesus. Passages, such as Esther 5, Romans 10:8-13, Acts 2:42-47, Colossians 3, and others sparked great discussion. After talking about what it means to

be a loyal follower of Christ, Mr. Sullivan challenged the students by asking them what being a loyal follower of Christ would look like practically for each of them.

During the final part of the retreat, middle school students had the pleasure of serving the local Manchester community by picking up trash along Main Street. This service project is a simple way for the students to come together and bless the community.

Midddle School Retreat

Each year the high school students head to Camp CONNRI in Ashford, CT, for a two-day retreat. This is always a greatly anticipated time, as students not only have a chance to hear from a guest speaker, but they also have an opportunity to play games and fellowship with one another in a beautiful off-campus location.

This year’s retreat speaker was Matt Huffman, who was already known to many of our students

through his connection to Coastlands Consultants. Matt challenged the students to “Behold the King,” as is the focus of the school’s theme this year. As Matt said, many people appreciate God for his “softer” qualities: His love, mercy, grace and kindness. However, by investigating Daniel 7:14 and other Scripture passages, Matt showed how God is the absolute King who is seated firmly on His throne. He is worthy of our worship and adoration!
