How To Navigate Conflict

Young Peacemakers

by Dawn Snellenberger

Have you ever noticed that people seem to have difficulty getting along with one another?  In fact, it appears that our society is becoming less agreeable, and individuals struggle with a diminished capacity to resolve their differences.  God’s Word, the Bible, has much counsel to give about living in peace with others, and it even provides strategies for doing so.  This does not happen automatically, though.  It takes intentional practice of learning what God’s Word says and then putting His principles into action.

Several years ago, CCS began teaching a biblically based program for conflict resolution called Young Peacemakers.  Every other week, Dawn Snellenberger teaches lessons from the Young Peacemakers curriculum to students in Grades 3-5.  Together they walk through 12 lessons each year with the focus on learning God’s principles and putting them into practice.  Oftentimes students bring real-life scenarios from home or school, and together they brainstorm ways to handle their differences.  Since conflict is part of every relationship, and

God calls His people to live at peace with one another, specific training is needed.  Isn’t it great to know that CCS students are not only gaining knowledge in the content areas, but they are also learning important life skills to carry with them into their future relationships?

Conflict is something most people dread and typically avoid. Yet when conflict is correctly engaged in, it can become a beneficial process in which we deepen our relationship with another person. In this six-part series, Dr. Jeffery Baker, clinical psychologist, shares strategies for facing conflict with confidence and growing in our skill of lovingly addressing the issues we face with other people.

This video series has a companion Training Course with discussion questions that can be found HERE!
