career exploration continues
FOR OUR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Mrs. Press has been leading a group of juniors and sophomores in a morning career exploration workshop. The workshop aims to help students discover who God made them to be and explore the possible careers that align with their interests, skills, abilities, ideal community, work environment, and coworkers, among other factors. Using the book What Color is Your Parachute? for Teens, the workshop goes beyond a simple inventory or interest survey and provides a holistic approach to career exploration.
When she offered this workshop, she wasn't sure who would be interested; after all, it begins at 8 AM! The students come to school early to participate in the workshop, and they have been thoroughly engaged in the process. Mrs. Press has been delighted to see the students open up and share their thoughts and dreams with one another. Through the workshop, Mrs. Press has had the chance to get to know these students on a deeper level, and she has enjoyed helping them discover new things about themselves.
Mrs. Press is responsible for post-high school planning, and this workshop has been just one of the new opportunities she has offered this year to help students plan for their future. This workshop follows two months of Lunchtime Career Chats that were held this winter. She will be using the results from this year's workshop to help select and plan the careers for next year's "Lunchtime Career Chat" sessions.
At Cornerstone, we recognize the importance of guiding students in discovering their passions and developing the skills they need to succeed in the workforce. More than that, we recognize the importance of equipping our students to listen to God and to make decisions with His guidance. It is a blessing to see our faculty and staff invest in our students as individuals, pointing them to our Creator at each step along the way.
It is also a blessing to get to know our students and to keep in contact with them as alumni. Mrs. Press looks forward to seeing what God has in store for each of the students in the future.
Zulma Montalvo, GLC Director
Ms. Zulma Montalvo...now Mrs. Zulma Madera...has worked with the children who attend GLC (our extended day program) for over three years now. She has served as the GLC Director for the past two years. Zulma was married in early June 2023, so she will not be returning to CCS in the fall. We are so grateful for her investment in our children, and we pray God's blessings on her future!
Nancy Whitney, Librarian
Mrs. Nancy Whitney has served as our librarian for 15 years. In fact, Mrs. Whitney was the first officially hired librarian at Cornerstone. Her warm and welcoming presence is a blessing to everyone who enters the library. Her love for literature has inspired a love of reading in many of our students, and we are all forever grateful. Mrs. Whitney is officially stepping into retirement this year, but we look forward to her continued presence as a member of the Cornerstone family.
Ed Main, Strategic Marketing Consultant
Mr. Ed Main has served in various capacities at Cornerstone over the years, most recently as a Strategic Marketing Consultant. His love for the school is evident as he has worked to spread the news and make sure that Cornerstone “isn’t the best kept secret in Manchester!” His ideas and vision have led to the start of some fun and meaningful traditions and programs at CCS. While he will not be serving in this positon next year, he will continue to share his enthusiasm and ideas as he remains a part of the Cornerstone family as a CCS parent.
Keith Press, Varsity Soccer Coach
Mr. Keith Press has volunteered as our Varsity Soccer Coach for many soccer seasons between 2006 and 2023. His dedication to our students and love for the game have been inspirational. Each year we are able to watch students excel and grow in their skills and performance. Mr. Press is not going anywhere, though! He will continue to serve at Cornerstone as the high school Science Teacher and I.T. Director. However, he will be stepping down from the role of head coach.
