JUNE 2022
THE LION'S ROAR
5
On May 18, we were blessed to gather together in person for our annual Spring Concert & Art Show. Our elementary students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 and our middle school students (Grades 6-8) shared their musical accomplishments with us. Our band students (Grades 4-8) performed for us, too, even though for most of them this was their first year working with wind instruments (after learning how to use bells during COVID restrictions). They did an amazing job! Click on the button to the right to watch the concert if you were unable to come in person!
We also celebrated the artistic endeavors for the 2021-22 year at Cornerstone Gallery on the night of the spring concert. We provided gallery-style viewing of top-rated art projects, which were on display in the MCN foyer before and after the spring concert. All major projects for grades K-5 were represented and an artist of the year for each class was awarded. A special selection from our high school art class was also presented. We hope you enjoyed the God-given talents of our hard-working artists!
SPRING CONCERT & ART SHOW
MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCCER
After a two-year absence, middle school (MS) soccer was back this spring with new players and coaching staff. This year’s 8th graders have not been able to play as 6th or 7th graders, but they came out in full force. CCS students Javen Lundy, Iyana Lundy, Cadel VanScoy, Jared Williams, and Jordean Walford were joined by homeschoolers (and previous CCS students) Oliver Moskites, Jeremiah Peña, and Isaiah Rodriguez. Our 7th graders included Josh Maciolek, Qiana Gayman, Sonya Harvel, and Sophia Rivard and 6th graders Amanda Adjei-Odei, Aidan Cane, Jeremy Haslam, Justin Lundy, Riley Main, Leylani Peña, and Gabe Shemenski rounded out the team. Coaches Ed Main and Bryan Bushong were assisted by CCS senior Gabe Pekari and CCS alumnus Jeremy Gerhard.
After some time building chemistry as a team, the CCS Lions were off, winning their first game together 8-1. From there it was a season of ups and downs, w,inning and losing mostly close games. When it came to the season-ending tournament, the Lions were hitting on all cylinders. A round-robin schedule of 3 games had the Lions 3-0 with an 18-1 goal differential, tying for first place with one other undefeated team. This led to a sudden death final game that was 1-1 with merely 4 minutes left in the game. Much to the Lions hard playing, Truth Baptist succeeded to score the go-ahead goal with just moments left in the game, giving them the title. CCS was proud to take home the runner up trophy for 2022.
Of note, during the 8th grade farewell game, CCS player, Iyana Lundy received Most Outstanding Female Player for the winning team in a 7-6 match. Congratulations, Iyana!
