No Greater Joy from the Head of School

"I have no greater joy than to hear my children walk in truth." 3 John 4

As a partnership school, one that partners with parents and their local churches, we have the blessing of sharing with them the joy of hearing their children--our students--walking in truth. Learning to walk in truth is a lifelong process, for sure. It's one that even we as adults are still learning! What great joy we have when we are able to hear the testimonies of God's faithfulness to our students as we encourage them to walk in truth.

Each year, we celebrate the Christmas season in a variety of ways: a Christmas concert, a Pre-K through Grade 12 combined chapel, and a special chapel and luncheon for our high school students and recent alumni (those who would have attended CCS with our

current high school students). This year we sought to find new ways to express our love for our students so that they will know how blessed we are to have them visit us after graduation. As an example, I asked our Pathway to Christian Leadership students (Ellie Russell and Tori Ruitto) if they would be interested in planning this year's alumni chapel. They were very willing to do so, and they did an outstanding job of pulling together a praise team that was also open to returning alumni.

Maintaining communication with our alumni is important to us, but it's not an easy task to accomplish. If you know of any alumni who would like to be personally informed of events like our alumni chapel (each December) and our alumni reunion (each November), please encourage them to provide us with their contact information by CLICKING HERE.

AN INTERVIEW OF A CCS ALUMNUS

Vin McCauley, CLASS OF 1996

Vin began attending Cornerstone in the middle of his fifth grade year. At the time, he had a friend who was enrolled at CCS, and he asked his parents if he could switch from the parochial school he was attending. They agreed, and he ended up remaining through graduation. He says that CCS provided several “core benefits” which have helped him throughout his life.

First, Vin believes the uniforms provided a “normalizing” experience. Because of the school's uniforms, students were not trying to impress each other

with designer clothes, and it created a level playing field for everyone, regardless of one's economic status. Second, the small classes provided extra accountability. The well-rounded Christian education he received allowed him to transition well to college. However, Vin says that the biggest benefit he recalls is that he was forced out of his comfort zone.

For sports, Vin played on the soccer and basketball teams. If he had attended a large public school, he knows he would not have been selected for the teams, but at

Cornerstone he was able to participate. He saw that character development was woven into the sports arena, which also taught him the value of being part of a team.

Another challenging, yet beneficial, activity was getting involved in a large CCS theater production called Narnia. While Vin wasn’t necessarily interested in drama, the group needed participants, so he volunteered.
