SEcond quarter honor roll
a special election
The high school history classes undertook a historic election in November and December. Each class was asked to devise a nominee, with universal voter agreement in the class, to run for a fictitious president. The criteria was that the students could only pick someone they had studied this school year. The voting electorate was the high school teachers who voted based on the student-created stump speeches, posters, slogans and gestures.
The purpose of this assignment was to gain a deeper understanding of a historical figure, collaborate with peers, and explore the ideas of an election in our constitutional system.
The election came down to King David (Grade 9), Queen Elizabeth I (Grade 10), John Paul Jones (Grade 11), and President Teddy Roosevelt (Grade 12).
After all the votes were tallied, Theodore Roosevelt was elected as president. The winning class received an educational game day in Mr. Clark’s class! Thank you, everyone, for participating!
