An often lost art in our society today is remembering...and then choosing...to say thank-you to those around us. How well do we model for our children, spouses, and neighbors how to honor others with our words and actions? Romans 12:10 tells us, "Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor." One of the most significant ways we can show honor to others is through our expressions of appreciation.
Unfortunately, we live in a busy and hurried culture...one that tends to be terribly businesslike and forgets or disregards our God-given need to be noticed. If we are not careful, we can interact with one another in ways similar to how we would use a ledger. We can act in ways that communicate entitlement or self-centeredness, even when we may not realize it.
What if we all tried to truly "outdo one another in showing honor"? What if we committed to being a group of people who chose to build and hold others up by extravagantly, meaningfully, and frequently extending words of appreciation?
Writing Thank-You Notes
This is one of the most delightful ways to express and receive thanks. We can teach our children how to write formal and casual letters and address/stamp letters that get placed in the mail.
Choosing to Speak Words of Appreciation and Affirmation
It takes an intentional decision on our behalves to choose words of life. Not only do they bless those to whom we speak them, but they bless the one speaking! We can also talk with our children about speaking consistent words...even when we are behind closed doors and think we are out of earshot.
Choosing to Highlight the Good We See
This can be done on the car ride to school or back home. A trip to the grocery store can be prefaced by watching for others' kind acts and how we can act kindly ourselves.
What would happen if we truly loved one another and outdid one another in showing honor?

CORNERSTONE EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT GRANTS
2
THE LION'S ROAR
FEBRUARY 2024
Cornerstone Christian School is thrilled to announce that we have received the first two grants from Cornerstone Educational Support, Inc. CES). CES is a newly established nonprofit charitable giving organization founded to support Cornerstone and help CCS move from surviving to thriving.
The first grant for $1,120 sponsored the fun rewards and activities at our fall Service and Celebration Day.
We are very excited about the most recent grant of $8,000 to be used towards upgrading our computer lab! Over the years, CCS has been blessed to receive used or refurbished computers as donations. We cannot wait to fill the computer lab with NEW computers that have been purchased specifically for our students’ use! This grant is just the first step in our technology strategic plan. CES is currently conducting a $60,000 Computer Upgrade Campaign to benefit Cornerstone!
We are thankful to Cornerstone Educational Support, Inc. and look forward to what we hope will be many more opportunities for CES to support Cornerstone. CLICK HERE to learn more about CES, what they are doing, and how you (and perhaps your employer) can support their future efforts.
As a new organization, they are just getting started! Please show your support by giving them a “like” on Facebook!
