MULCH + MEMORIES (continued from p. 2)

HOW A VIRTUAL AUCTION IDEA BROUGHT FAMILIES TOGETHER

require a whole lot of skill." The end result was a donation of four hours of yard work provided by the entire Light family. Fast forward to the virtual silent auction and a flurry of bidding surrounded the "Yard Work by the Lights" item. Whether it was knowing the quality of work by the Lights would be amazing, or if it was the idea that you could be their Pharaoh for the day as they slaved like Egyptians working on your yard, is unknown. As enticing as the latter one was to me, we decided it would be an opportunity to accomplish three things at once.

1.       It accomplished getting new mulch into our playscape/landscaped area.

2.       It provided a time to labor alongside our friends as we worked (and ate) together.

3.       It allowed us to make a donation to CCS to honor our fundraising investment in CCS.

In addition, it allowed the Lights to give and serve as they had decided to do together. Deciding to give and serve as a family is a powerful, spiritual act of love and worship as well as a blessing to all involved.

We all worked hard and fellowshipped hard, if that is such a thing. Working with them for several hours got everyone hungry so we threw burgers and dogs on the grill, which morphed into an old-fashinoned neighborly cookout. We shared visions of the future and memories of the past, and we made new memories that very day. It was the last time we got to do something with the Lights prior to their move to Maryland to serve in ministry at their new church.

The bottom line: Be creative in your donation ideas for the auction. It is not too late; you can still donate something this week. Also, be generous in bidding to help CCS reach its net goal of $80K raised for the year. Celebrate God’s provision and blessings in your life with friends. The yard work with the Lights also turned out to be one of the last things they did before they moved. Now, if we can just get the Snellenbergers to do our mulch this year!
