MEADE PARK, ONESTY FAMILY AQUATIC CENTER— CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA
Kimley-Horn and Counsilman-Hunsaker were selected as the lead planners and project manager for a $ 3.5 million outdoor aquatic complex. Features include a 2,150 square foot bath house / operations / filter building, 7,370-square-foot, zero-entry multiuse pool with three lap lanes, waterslide, water play structure, group pavilion, and related site development including utilities, seating decks, lazy river, lighting, landscape, and irrigation. Onesty Family Aquatic Center opened in May 2009. Extensive neighborhood meetings took place during planning and design as an effort to include the public. A key design challenge included building a usable citywide facility in a neighborhood setting without negatively affecting the site character while placing an emphasis on tree preservation. This project involved a typical design, bid, and build approach. The project team was successful in creating an upgraded, safe, and new style family-use facility that enhances the neighborhood and townscape.

SOUTHWEST POOL MASTER PLAN STUDY— LARGO, FLORIDA
In 2013, Kimley-Horn and Counsilman-Hunsaker were selected by the City of Largo to provide an evaluation of the 25-year-old Southwest 50 Meter Swimming Pool and Diving Complex. The study consisted of evaluating the existing pool mechanical systems: addressing the functional and physical obsolescence of the existing pool and bathhouse; and preparing master plan options and costs for three options to repair or replace the existing pool. Other area providers were visited and meetings were held with the staff, public, and the Parks Board to select the preferred option. Once the preferred option was selected— the consultants prepared an opinion of revenue and expenses and presented the findings to the City Council. The Council was supportive of the selected option, and the project is expected to fund out of current taxing mechanisms in 2016 or 2017. There were no change orders to this project.
