Frank Phelps is the nephew of Dale Runnion , an Ohio native who lived many of his later years in Longmont , Colorado . Dale Runnion was the mastermind behind numerous cattle magazines and publications . He wholeheartedly promoted the Limousin breed and many others in his 98 years of life . His storied journalism and communications career encompassed many accolades . It began in 1949 serving as a field representative for the Chicago Drovers Journal . He then went to the Aberdeen Angus Journal in 1952 , where he was the Managing Editor . In 1968 Runnion was the Marketing Manager for Lee Leachman at Ankony Angus in Rhinebeck , New York .
Most notably , Runnion founded the International Limousin Journal in 1971 . Runnion and his business partner , Dan Wedman , founded the Limousin World in 1983 . Phelps ’ uncle was instrumental in marketing and promoting the Limousin breed throughout the
United States in the 1970s . He served as Executive Vice President of the North American Limousin Foundation and edited and published numerous pieces on the history of the Limousin breed .
The Saddle & Sirloin Club recognized Runnion ’ s accomplishments in 1988 with the hanging of his portrait in the famed portrait collection at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center in Louisville , Kentucky . Dale Runnion has been inducted into the Hall of Fame for the North American Limousin Foundation , the American Angus Association , the American Aberdeen Association and The Ohio State University ’ s Animal Sciences Department . continued on page 28
O ’ Connor Farms Limousin exhibited for many years at the Ohio State Fair Commercial Cattle Show , where they accumulated countless champion banners . Their cattle compete extremely well on the rail and grade exceptionally well .
In addition to their purebred Limousin herd numbering 500 head , the partnership also farms approximately 1,800 acres of corn , soybeans , wheat , triticale and hay .
