nutrition intake. This also ensure the cows are able to maintain body conditioning during lactation. “It is always important to think about maintaining body conditioning scores in cows for the next year,” Hilscher said. “It is a lot easier to keep a cow at a body conditioning score of five than to have her fall to a three or four and try to bring her back. It actually takes less energy to maintain body conditioning than to let it drop off.” Hilscher also reminded producers to make sure their cattle are on a good mineral program. The main source of minerals is forage, and if the forage quality is down their intake of minerals could also decrease. Again, if it is a spring calving her, lactating cows will lose a lot of minerals making a mineral program just as important. “During lactation, the cows also lose a lot of minerals – macro and trace – to going into milk production, and transferring that to the calf,” Henry said. “Producers should make sure their mineral programs are also in good shape.” LT PERFORMANCE POWER in the P edigrees & ALDU Tucker ALDU NELSON 172D 07/24/2017 • Homo Polled (P-3) • Red • Lim-Flex 10/09/2016 • Homo Polled (P-2) • Red • Purebred ALDU Fireball 105A x ALDU Allie 802 CED: 10 BW: 1.0 WW: 58 YW: 87 MK: 23 TM: 52 CEM: 6 ST: 8 Doc: 15 YG: -.49 CW: 11 REA: .69 MB: -.19 FT: -0.11 $MTI: 44.66 ALDU Fireball 105A x ALDU Tyra 602W CED:11 BW: 0.4 WW: 59 YW: 88 MK: 22 TM: 51 CEM: 5 ST: 9 Doc: 13 YG: -.73 CW: 6 REA: 1.04 MB: -.41 FT: -0.15 $MTI: 38.88 What can we say about ALDU Tucker?
