Montagne will complete her NALJA career in
2020 with her final junior nationals in West
Monroe, La. Highlights over the years include
winning reserve champion purebred bull, reserve
champion purebred cow-calf pair, several division
championships and reserve championships
on both bred and owned bulls and heifers and
many class wins in the owned heifer division.
“This year, my bull, JLX Exceed, was too old to
show in the junior show, but he won the All-
American Futurity, the open show held at the
end of nationals week,” said Montagne. “He
is the result of the mating of my 2016 show
string – JGLT California Girl x JLX Charisma.
The win was especially sweet given that he is
from the heart of my herd. His grand dam, LLJB
Adalida, had a very successful show career that
continued for several years. She was named
Reserve Champion Limousin Female at American
Royal in 2015 with JLX Charisma at her side.”
At this year’s NALJA show, which was held
in Springfield, Mo., the South Dakota team
made it to the fitting finals, which was
another career highlight for Montagne.
“It was pretty cool for the South Dakota
team to make it to the fitting finals,” said
Montagne. “For years, my brother and I were
the only South Dakota juniors who attended
nationals, so it’s awesome to see younger
members from our state getting involved.”
Looking to the future, Montagne’s junior show
career may soon be coming to an end, but she is
