Award of Excellence Scholarship Up to 3, $750 scholarships were awarded to support Limousin enthusiasts that have proven excellence in Limousin activities as well as leadership skills demonstrated in NALJA, 4-H, FFA, and other endeavors. They are selected based on their hands-on experience shown by a detailed report of management practices used within the applicant’s own herd as well as their ability to set and achieve worthy goals. Randa Taylor, Decatur, Texas; Dalton Edwards, Higginsville, Mo., were presented with the 2019 Award of Excellence Scholarship. Congratulations! Dick O’Brien Memorial Junior Herdsman Award This year’s Dick O’Brien junior herdsman award goes to a young man who has been part of the Oklahoma Limousin family for many years. He has grown up following in his big brother’s footsteps, showing mainly quality home raised heifers and bulls. Andrew Wright, Miami, Okla., was this year’s recipient of the Dick O’Brien Memorial Junior Herdsman Award. Andrew works hard caring for and showing his cattle while helping others prepare theirs for the show ring. His advisor 2019 Award of Excellence Scholarship recipients: Randa Taylor, Decatur, Texas; Dalton Edwards, Higginsville, Mo. has watched Andrew grow from the quiet little brother that did not want to participate in any satellite activities to the leader of their junior association. He is also a great mentor to the younger junior members. Andrew and his older brother have started a Limousin operation with the memory of their late brother always in their heart. Together they raise Limousin and Lim-Flex seedstock and market their product to other juniors seeking quality Limousin show heifers. His advisor states, “I feel this young man not only has the same integrity, but also the same love for this great breed as Dick O’Brien did himself.” Congratulations, Andrew!
