From his fledgling desire to unify diametrically opposed materials to his evolving search to overcome the limitations of glass, Johannes von Stumm always puts his soul into his work, creating sculptures which touch people, be they a massage therapist or a Buddhist monk.

Earlier on in his career, Johannes suffered from a bad back and needed two weeks of massage therapy at home to relieve the pain. The therapist, Jola, noticed one of his sculptures and asked Johannes what it was all about because she couldn’t understand what was going on. Johannes tried his best to explain but Jola found it hard to comprehend. Then one week she asked to buy the sculpture because “it was like her soul”. It amazed Johannes that someone, who didn’t have much access to art, suddenly fell in love with the piece.
