The attractive abstract shape in its unfolded form was semi-recognisable. I could see the potential to use the folded relief and to develop the individual panels in colour - bright colour. A coat of PVA glue sealed the surface and then I gave it a red base layer. To provide balance I placed the heavy, dark navy blue square in the middle with the lighter shades on the outer shapes. I used flat colours, mixed colours, scraped back colours, layers, harmonised and clashing colours, dry on dry, wet into wet and every combination I could think of. The success of the painting meant that I was now inundated with people giving me their cardboard boxes! This has led to a whole series where I am metaphorically delivering them around the world in ethnic colours, designs, images and patterns. ‘Thinking Inside the Box’ sold at the SSS Landmark exhibition.
