COLD CONNECTIONS FOR JEWELRY METALSMITHING (5 WEEKS) Learn creative ways to join metal and set stones through cold connection. Rivets will be made to hold pieces together securely or made to allow pieces to move. This class will begin with basic metalworking and continue with multiple techniques of connecting metal and setting cabochons and found objects without heat. Monday 2-5pm Rachelle Stromberg Session II: Starts February 16 $175, Members $170 $15 Material Fee REPOUSSE (5 WEEKS) Repousse (French, meaning “to push back”) is the art of shapes and decorations with patterns raised in relief made by hammering and pressing on the reverse side used especially on metal without using pitch. Through discussion, demonstration and a little history about metal work and repousse, students will be able to create small tiles and jewelry using this technique. Metal, handouts and special tools needed included in material fee. Prerequisite: Beginning Metalsmithing. Wednesday 6:30-9:30pm Frank M. Glapa, Roycroft Renaissance Master Artisan Session I: Starts January 14 $175, Members $170 $100 Material fee INTERMEDIATE/ ADVANCED INTERMEDIATE METALSMITHING (10 WEEKS) Build upon skills learned in Beginning Metalsmithing by working on projects that develop your ability to solder, create three-dimensional forms, and set stones. Design, craftsmanship, and refining techniques will be discussed. This class is for advanced beginners who want to expand and hone their skills. Prerequisite: Two sessions of Beginning Metalsmithing or instructor approval. Tuesday 6:30-9:30pm Susan Franker Starts January 13 Thursday 1:30-4:30pm SE L L O N (10 WEEKS) Be more proficient at stone setting and soldering by focusing on bezel setting. Learn to create bezels more quickly, with ease and improve skills learned in beginning metals. Step bezels and decorative bezels will also be covered in this class. Bring cabochon stones to the first class. Materials may be purchased from the instructor. Prerequisite: Beginning Metalsmithing. Thursday 6:30pm-9:30pm Susan Franker Starts January 15 SOLDERING 101 (5 WEEKS) Looking to improve your soldering skills? This class will help you feel confident using sheet, wire and paste solder. Multiple soldering techniques, basic jigs and more advanced setups will be demonstrated. Most materials will be available for purchase from instructor. Prerequisite: Beginning Metalsmithing, First-Time Jeweler or instructor approval. Monday 2-5pm Rachelle Stromberg Session I: Starts January 12 $175, Members $170 $350, Members $340 CREATIVE SETTINGS (10 WEEKS) POWDER COATING (5 WEEKS) Powder coating is a fun and economical way to color coat your brass or copper jewelry or small sculptures. Learn to powder coat, layer colors, draw on the surface, mask off patterns and fabricate work to be powder coated. A respirator or mask is required. $350, Members $340 Do you have stones, found objects, or anything that you’ve always wanted to set? Have you been challenged by those hard to set items? Well, bring them to class and we’ll get them incorporated into a piece of jewelry. We’ll investigate bezels, prongs, tabs and anything else we can come up with to get them to stay in place.
