FAMILY WORKSHOPS

CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS

(1 DAY)

This special workshop is designed to
give families with children younger
than 5 an opportunity to spend a
morning with clay. While listening
to the music of Camille Saint-Saens’s
The Carnival of the Animals, celebrate
animals big and small.

These workshops are a wonderful
opportunity to work together on
themed projects and bring laughter,
smiles and great new crafts into
your life. All workshops are 2 hours
long and meant for children ages 5+
accompanied by a paying adult.
$60, Members $55 for one adult and
one child.
$30 for each additional family
member.

LET IT SNOW!
Winter is here and let’s celebrate one
of the best parts...SNOW! Snowballs,
snowflakes, and snowmen come
together to create a wintertime scene
out of clay.

PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT:
SCULPTURE-3D DESIGN IN
CLAY
(5 WEEKS)
Explore functional or sculptural clay,
working large or small. Bring your
ideas alive as you create pieces from
vessels to figures and animals. A
variety of slab, coiling and modeling
techniques will be demonstrated, as
well as surface decoration and glazing.
You’ll learn about ceramic history as
you develop your creative style.

PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT:
PAINTING WITH MARKERS
(5 WEEKS)
Students will be introduced to marker
techniques necessary to portray their
subject matter in an illustrative and
painterly style. Starting with gray
scale, students can practice marker
control with different textures to
further develop technical skill.
These skills will then be developed
and applied to full color illustrative
paintings. Students will develop
several portfolio ready works of
14”x17” or larger.

YOGA AND ART
Join us in the Lillstreet Loft for a
fun-filled yoga class and enriched
art-making experience. Children and
adults will learn and practice yoga
through games, music and story,
followed by a Valentine-themed
painting session inspired by Jim Dine.

SEDER PLATES
Make your own Seder plate. Use it
to serve a special dish, and proudly
display your creation the rest of
the year. Come with family to work
together on your heirloom plate using
personal imagery and text. Embellish
your plate with color and texture. You
will learn handbuilding techniques to
create a one-of-a-kind clay plate that
is beautiful and food-safe.

SPRING BIRDHOUSES
Take a break from the cold and snow
with this Spring-themed project. Give
a bird a new home made out of clay
and glazed with a variety of bright
spring colors. By the time the ice
melts and green returns to the yards
and trees, you’ll be ready to hang your
birdhouse and roll out the welcome
mat...one you made yourself.

ZOETROPES
(5 WEEKS)
Explore animation the old-fashioned
way by making many mini moveable
motion machines. Learn about visual
phenomena like Persistence of Vision
and the Phi Phenomena that allow
our eye to merge still images into
animated content. Create a sequence
of images that will become your
animated Victorian toy.

Learn from a graphic novelist all
the steps involved in producing
your own comic. From scripting and
thumbnailing, to penciling, inking
and layout we’ll go step by step and
learn all the tricks and techniques.
For beginners looking to learn about
the medium, or artists wanting a little
guided direction.
