Institute of Chicago, young artists
will create their own masterpieces
by exploring different painting
techniques, photography, and mixedmedia collage. Let your young artist
tell you about the famous paintings on
your next visit downtown!
Using paper, clay, and wire, we’ll make
our own colorful, handmade beads
for stringing necklaces and bracelets.
Exploring theories of color and
patterning while refining fine motor
skills, students create beautiful, oneof-a-kind pieces.

Thinking in cooler colors, we’ll create
thumbnail sketches and full-sized
paintings from a short story, poem,
fairy tale and an original written piece.
While studying popular illustrations
and following in their imaginative
footsteps, each artist will learn
drawing and painting techniques
while creating their own book and
frameable artwork connecting words
and pictures.

Discover how a lump of clay can
become famous landmarks found
around the world from the Egyptian
pyramids to the Eiffel Tower. Students
use slabs, coils, and interesting shapes
to add interesting details to make
a well-known structure their own
design.
Learn the foundations for making a
beautiful, handmade piece of jewelry.
Explore basic components and how
to wire wrap using metal wire and
drilled beads. After practicing skills,
considering colors, and making
patterns, artists create their own
unique projects.

Keeping a sketchbook throughout
the class, students learn to create
a drawing from their imagination.
Rough drawings and quick sketches
will be turned into a finished piece.
Still-life objects will occasionally be
used to further understanding of
basic drawing techniques. All levels
welcome.

time learning the basic techniques
of handbuilding then move onto the
wheel, while making great pots and
unique sculpture!

artists, and build a lifelong foundation
for drawing and painting. Working
in acrylics, young artists explore the
history of still life, set up a scene

The painting Castle and Sun by
Paul Klee will be our inspiration
and backdrop as we create our own
medieval scenes and stories using
geometric shapes and various shades
of color. We’ll explore the different
parts of the castle and the people
inside to make drawings, paintings,
collages, and 3D works of art.
Explore the world of cartooning. We
will cover our favorite TV and comic
book friends and animals. You’ll
get to develop your own individual
characters, incorporating drawing and
cartooning techniques.
Teen metals is set up to create an
atmosphere for teens to explore and
create jewelry and metal sculpture.
Students will learn basic sawing,
soldering and stone setting skills. All
materials included.
