FIRST-TIME ENAMELING
(5 WEEKS)
Learn basic enameling techniques
such as sifting, stenciling, sgrafitto
and basse-taille by kiln-firing colorful
powdered glass enamels on copper.
Acquire a range of skills to create your
own vibrantly colored designs. Copper
sheet, pre-cut shapes and additional
enamels will be available for purchase
from the instructor.

FIRST-TIME GLASS
BEADMAKING
(5 WEEKS)
Become comfortable with basic
torch techniques while creating
simple bead shapes with a variety
of fundamental decorating styles.
Shaping, heat control, color, use of
tools, classroom equipment and studio
safety will be covered. Classes will
involve demonstrations, discussions,
individual instruction and plenty of
practice time. An overview of how
to finish your beautiful beads will be
discussed.
Ages 16 yrs and up welcome.

BEGINNING GLASS FUSING
(5 WEEKS)
Students will become familiar with the
tools, materials and basic techniques
for fusing glass. Learn to properly
cut, design and layout glass to create
jewelry, accessories or small trays.
Material fee includes kiln firings, clear,
white and black glass, and a variety
of scrap glass, frit and stringers. No
experience required.

Students with prior enameling
experience will enhance their skills
to enliven their small-scale art and
jewelry projects. Intermediate to
advanced traditional kiln-fired
enameling techniques such as basse
taille, sgraffito, en ronde bosse,
and limoges will be demonstrated.
Enamels, metal and additional
materials will be available for
purchase from the instructor.
Prerequisite: First-Time Enameling
or basic level enameling experience.
Basic metalsmithing skills are
required.

BEYOND BEGINNER: ELEMENTS
OF BEAD DESIGN
(5 WEEKS)
Ready to hone your bead basics into
skillfully designed work featuring
precise shapes andpatterns? We’ll
start by reviewing beginning torch
techniques, and continue with a focus
on heat control, consistency, and
confidence. Explore exciting color
combinations and experiment with
composition and shaping. Learn
methods for creating patterns with
dots and stringers, and spend plenty
of time perfecting your encasing
techniques. Prior knowledge of
torch-working fundamentals required.
Mandrels and glass available for
purchase from instructor.

This advanced class will explore how
enameling with .999 fine silver differs
from copper enameling and introduces
how various techniques are enhanced
by the use of silver. Students will
focus on techniques including basse
taille, paillon, simple cloisonné and
champlevé. Metal and enamels will be
available for purchase.
Prerequisite: Intermediate level
enameling and experienced
metalsmithing skills are required, or
with instructor’s approval.

Take a journey beyond the basics and
explore techniques such as deliberate
under- and over-firing, torch firing,
fusing and embedding glass and
metals, inscribing surface designs,
working with fire scale and oxides,
firing onto wire, mesh and more.
Novice and experienced students
alike will expand their skills while
redefining enameling beyond its
traditional boundaries. Enamels,
metal and additional materials
available for purchase from the

WORKSHOPS
ENAMELING WITH GRAPHITE
WORKSHOP
(1 DAY)
Learn to draw with graphite pencils
directly onto fired glass enamel
surfaces. Drawing skills are helpful
but not essential. This little known
technique is easy to learn and will
reward students with a very diverse
new skill to enhance their enamel
designs. Students will learn the
technique step-by-step and make
samples which can be incorporated
into future projects.
Prerequisite: First-Time Enameling or
basic level enameling experience.
