Building relationships through service...
Blessings
“Blessings” is a snapshot of stories about the people who turn to Lighthouse for assistance. The stories are true, but
the names of our neighbors have been changed and our staff and volunteer names have been omitted because we
believe the blessings communicated here belong to God.
Millie
Lighthouse volunteers plan a monthly luncheon for
approximately 50 senior citizens to enjoy a hot meal, a
time of fellowship, entertainment and information about
available senior services. The Senior Program is driven by
volunteers with financial and administrative support from
Lighthouse. The volunteers for the senior program not
only plan and prepare for the monthly luncheon, but they
are also advocates for our senior neighbors in need. This is
one example of their ongoing community involvement.
Lighthouse recently received a call from a local senior to
report her central air conditioning unit has failed and it was
stifling hot in her trailer. She also advised she needed
assistance with her electric bill and help with a car repair.
After making several phone calls LCM found a local auto
repair shop where the owner repaired the automobile
starter at no cost. LCM senior volunteers also located an
RV repair man who agreed to waive his normal service fee
to inspect her cooling unit. After assessing the unit, he
replaced two parts on her A/C at no cost.
Millie was able to get her car repaired, received help with
her electric bill, and now has central air conditioning, all to
the glory of God and the assistance of Lighthouse Christian
Ministries senior ministry.
Aloha Seniors!
In September, the senior luncheon volunteers
greeted our guests with a Hawaiian-themed luau.
Iced tea with little umbrellas, flowered leis for the
ladies, and traditional pineapple-infused shish
kabobs made it an escape to the islands.
Our senior neighbors enjoy board games, bingo,
live entertainment, fun and fellowship. Most of our
seasoned neighbors tell us they look forward to the
luncheons because it’s like a family reunion every
month. It’s a blessing for us too.
Spooky October
The Senior Ministry volunteers
provided a spooky get together in
October during the monthly senior
luncheon. Lighthouse hosts our
seasoned neighbors each third Friday of
the
month
for
fellowship,
entertainment, and this month’s home
cooked meal was chili. The Senior
Ministry volunteers also provide
information about senior services,
advocacy on their behalf, and
sometimes to be prayer partners.
