‘ I ’ m Here For More Than Just The Money .’

I

LOVE MY JOB . I REALLY DO , BUT IF I am going to be completely honest , most of the time I am significantly puzzled . I ’ ve heard it said that when you find a way to make a great living doing something you love , you ’ ll never have to work another day in your life ! I admit that my work is my J . O . B . ( Jump
Outta Bed ). Yep , every morning when my alarm goes off I jump out of bed and look forward to the day ahead . My work gives me the opportunity to live my passion and my purpose while getting paid for it . I love running my own company and take my responsibility to my employees and shareholders very seriously .
Lately I ’ ve been wondering if everyone feels the same way I do about their work and this is what has me puzzled . Why would someone work at a place that isn ’ t part of their own J . O . B .? It can ’ t be for the money ; I see people who make a great deal of money and they ’ re miserable . They treat people unkindly and can sometimes be downright rude ! Perhaps they ’ re so focused on the end goal that they forget to look at how much they ’ ve already achieved . When both eyes are staring at the goal ahead , so much is missed along the way . Don ’ t get me wrong , money doesn ’ t make a person miserable , money simply has a way of magnifying who you already are . If you ’ re a miserable person without money , more money gives you more opportunity to spread your misery . If you ’ re a happy , positive person , more money will magnify your happy , positive personality .
Because I love a good puzzle , I ’ ve thought a lot about some of my employees who don ’ t seem to see their work as part of their own J . O . B . It looks like we have an important mission to boost morale within the company ! Should I give more paid vacation days , give everyone a raise , or create a shorter work week ? The answer is , “ no ” to all three because it seems to me that nothing I do could make an unhappy employee happy , because happiness is something that comes from within .
It seems to me the problem that needs solved is how to teach someone to find happiness from within when they believe that all their obstacles and challenges are created from outside sources such as people , places and conditions ? It ’ s more than money ; it ’ s about corporate culture and having a high degree of respect for people right from the start . We need to make sure we are hiring people because
