FANTASTIC NEW PEOPLE & OFFERS FROM MY CITY

by Wanda Veloz

" There is a country in the world placed on the same path as the sun. Native of the night. Placed in an unlikely archipelago of sugar and alcohol... " ~ Pedro Mir.
With these words of our great Dominican poet, I want to say: Welcome to our first digital edition of LifeGrid Santo Domingo! Welcome to this space where we will bring the joy, affability, history, enthusiasm, riches, beauty and dedication of Dominicans to the rest of the world. Welcome to this vibrant city located in the heart of the Caribbean, with turquoise waters, merengue and sun.
We are a tropical country known mainly for our beautiful white sand beaches and cocotales. But we are also a city of helpful and cheerful people, offering great quality products and services that deserve to be highlighted, such as Milas, which is the featured business in our edition this month.
There’ s so much that I’ ll be talking to you about of the things that I like about my country and my city. However, after being out of my country for a while, I can say that in my opinion the greatest wealth we have is our people. Our joy, sense of humor, good disposition and goodness are our greatest treasures, which persist despite the problems that afflict us as a nation.
We are a city, the first city of America founded by Christopher Columbus, and with the distinction of having the first University, the first Hospital and the First Cathedral of the new world, in which modern skyscrapers are mixed with a beautiful Colonial City that’ s currently considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The Cathedral of Santa María la Menor( known as the Primada de America), the Fortress of Santo Domingo, the Convent of the Dominicans, the Museum of the Royal Houses, the Alcázar de Colón, the Puerta del Conde, the National Pantheon are only some of the places that a visitor to this city cannot miss while here!
We also have the delights of local food and dishes, accompanied by our rum and beer, of course, and a varied international cuisine of great quality to enjoy.
And can’ t leave merengue aside! Considered an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO since 2016, with its contagious and joyful rhythm that makes millions of people around the world dance.
We have our amber and larimar stones as well, this last one exclusive of our country, and of a turquoise blue color, like the waters that surround our island.
Museums, modern shopping malls with national and world-renowned stores, the National Theater with its symphony orchestra, Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium( where Dominicans vibrate every winter season watching baseball games played by our local teams), parks and recreational areas, sports and social clubs... the list of places to visit goes on and on! So I think it’ s best if I just invite you over to Santo Domingo, so that you can discover and explore it for yourself.
