money somehow. I got a job at Brick City Bar & Grill as a dishwasher and also babysat about every weekend. Grandma would call about every other week and would want her house cleaned, her yard mowed, or her vehicles washed. She paid me well and kept me out of trouble.
Washing dishes, babysitting, and helping Grandma out was not the only thing on my agenda during the summer. Living on a farm, I had chores every single night and mowing our own lawn every week. Dad is picky about how clean his vehicles are so it became a tradition and routine to wash the vehicles every Sunday. Seven vehicles in one day took quite a bit of time! Weeding the flowerbeds, keeping the pond going, and cleaning the house for my Mom were all my duties. Everything in life was going great. That’s until I was forced to leave the school that I had so many great memories with, teachers that cared, friends who supported, and coaches who trained. It was towards the middle of my sophomore year when I got the news that my school would be coming to a close at the end of the year. Not many people knew what to think, some didn’t have a clue what was happening, and others thought it was the greatest thing possible. I was one of the kids that had some basic understanding of the situation, but I really didn’t know what to think about it. As the school year was winding down, it all started to sink in. The teachers that I’ve had my entire life were either retiring or I wouldn’t be taking their classes for my last two years of my high school career. My best friends were graduating, my classmates were transferring to different schools, and I wouldn’t have the same coaches that I grew up with. By spending my summer playing softball and attending baseball games, it didn’t really feel like it was all coming to an end at all. That’s until reality hit on the first week of school at North Fayette Valley when I was faced with a whole new environment. Nothing was the same. It was the biggest impact of my life because I wasn’t participating in the same activities I once was.
