Rockbridge High School Golf By : David Miller , Coach
It was a strong showing by the Wildcat Golf team in the first District Tourney of the season . All five schools participated at the par 71 Lexington Country Club . Spotswood shot a team total of 324 , followed by Rockbridge at 340 , Broadway 377 , Turner Ashby 386 , and Harrisonburg 390 . Freshman Wildcat Andrew " the man " McCoy won medalist today with a wonderful round of 75 . He battled all day on some difficult pin placements and avoided most of the trouble all round long . Very proud of him today . Spotswood ' s Ryan Asfa had 79 and Spotswood ' s Carter Atkins had 80 and Wildcat Sofia Vargas was close behind with an 82 for the 4th best score of the day . She is just amazing . Keeps getting better and really works at the game . A few less putts and she will be in the 70 ' s . Freshman Wildcat Jack Jensen and Wildcat Kendal Nye both did well today scoring 91 and 92 to round out our team 4scores . Jack and Kendal both need to get rid of a few bad holes and they can get to the mid 80 ' s by season end . Abby Brooks was next with a 95 and just needs to keep working on her short game and putting . Hoping Abby can get in the 80 ' s also . Freshman Nick Vargas is coming along . He is a natural athlete and golf is just going to take a little more work and I see him being a factor by the end of the season . Nick had 109 today and I see him being in the 90 ' s very soon . Wildcats have a nine hole match Thursday at Harrisonburg ( Heritage Oaks ) and then on Monday another 18 hole district Tournament at Lakeview in Harrisonburg . Go Cats !
