"Sumenep – Madura"
Trophy of Madura

W
hen I first got into Sumenep,
Madura, everything was as
stiff as rock. The people from
Distributor CV. PKP all greeted me with extra
unnecessary politeness, probably because
they thought we all came from Jakarta. And
then a slip of unmistakable Madura phrase
slipped off my mouth, and I could practically
hear all of them sigh in relief.
that it’s much easier to
implement the training
with the native
language, and
laughter became a
constant addition
to our training.
It felt like going
home, actually.
‘You came from here?’ one of them asked, and
I simply grinned in chagrin.
At the middle of
my implementation
work, there was actually
a National Independence
Festival. As per tradition, the
Independence Day would feature lots of silly
games, including Chips Munching,
Everything started to become rainbows right
after that. Having shared an identical culture
and language helped me tremendously to
connect with the distributors. They said

Rope-Pulling, and Bottle
Marriage. All of the
implementators
participated in the
games. The last time
I ever participated
was when I was in
high school. I forgot
how it was to win
something, a trophy,
and I actually did! I
won second place on
Bottle Marriage, and got my
own trophy. It truly felt like going
into a time machine and becoming a child
once again.•••
