11 Bacteria Live on and in our bodies and are everywhere in the natural world. Sources of bacteria known to cause food poisoning include:Contaminated raw food - meat, poultry, eggs, fish, the outside of fruit and vegetables Pests and pets Air Dirt and Dust Refuse and waste People (food handlers, visitors, customers). Bacteria are found on skin and can come from contaminated clothing. They live in huge quantities in our intestines and come out in faeces (this happens in everyone, not just people who are ill)
