Meeting Anne has been by far one of the best experiences I of my life . Anne is my hero , so it was absolutely mind-boggling to not only be able to meet her but also to spend time talking to her and hearing her story .
From astronaut to future astronaut , there was so much that Anne had to tell me . She placed a big emphasis on being resilient and tough . Anne spoke of her experience becoming an astronaut , and how every single decision you make leads to where you are . Another thing she made a big point about , was surrounding yourself with people that will lift you up , creating a community that ultimately allows you to believe in yourself . My favorite thing Anne said to me that day was , “ Don ’ t ever believe them if someone tells you your dream is silly . Your dream is silly , but look where I ’ m at .”
My “ silly ” dream has gotten me to places I would never have imagined !
I am now fourteen years old and a high school freshman , and just by being passionate I have gotten incredibly far . With a book in my hand and an eye on the future I am taking AP classes , physics , and aerospace engineering . What all the things I ’ ve done have taught me , whether interviewing my hero or going to space camp , is that I must be the one to make my future and to write my own story .
I know what I ’ m doing will put me in the right direction , as is also knowing that I don ’ t have it all figured out … because I don ’ t . I ’ m just a girl from Spokane with a dream bigger than myself who fell in love with learning . And I still have more to learn ! Right now , I ’ m starting to learn how to fly a plane , and how to study ideas and objects in space - that I can barely wrap my head around - but most importantly , how I can become a person who is resilient and full of grit . There is so much to absorb right now about life and the stars ; I will learn by keeping hold on my goals .
