I come from a long line of dreamers .
My grandpa once told me that a long time ago my family used to be sailors . As sailors they spent a long time out on the sea both day and night , so they had to use the stars as navigation .
When I was told about the wonders of the skies above , I thought — this time around , after generations and generations of using stars as navigation — I would become the sailor that navigates through them .
I ’ m going to be an astronaut .
I can clearly remember the day I knew where my path was going . It was 2021 and I was on a Zoom meeting with my fifth grade class . My teacher decided to have us try to think outside the box , about the bigger picture , by asking questions . That was easy for me . My question was : “ Does the fabric of reality exist ? If so , is anything we see real ?” I wasn ’ t aware that question would lead me down a rabbit hole where I eventually found Wonderland .
I ’ ve always been different than most kids . I am an avid reader , and I love learning , so I am never scared of not knowing things , because I am thrilled at the idea of learning something for the first time .
In fifth through seventh grades , when first starting to get interested in space , my mind was completely blown by the things we don ’ t understand . I now read as many books as I can about black holes , exo-planets , and parallel universes , because these are things that scientists know little about .
In eighth grade , I went from learning about the stars to wanting to go to them .
