John also added that Flight Knight removes barriers to a career in aerospace . He said it could be intimidating at the airport looking at a Boeing 737 on the tarmac . But he said , “ Standing next to a Boeing Stearman biplane at the Foundation ( two seats , open cockpit ), you might imagine yourself with the stick in one hand and the other gripping the throttle . We ’ ve had many students leave a Flight Knight with an abiding curiosity about a new field , flight . Several have become volunteers and taken their inquiry to a higher level .”
As always , with events like this , some sponsors pay for the event so that others can join and learn . In this case , a sponsor was the Air National Guard in Spokane .
