Doug said they offered Flight Knight at the Historic Flight Foundation in March of 2023 and will offer it again in the fall semester of 2023 . He said they only invite students in their district to the program . They send out a Google form to their district for registration . But Doug was clear that if other school districts are interested in the program , they should contact him .
The event is held at the Historic Flight Foundation , owned by John Sessions , whose mission is , “ By sharing the history of visionary aviators and providing compelling STEM experiences , Historic Flight Foundation sparks imagination , discovery , and ambition . We inspire students of all ages to soar into the future .” The Foundation has 14 historic and retired aircraft on display . Some airplanes are set up for tours where you can sit in the cockpit and pretend to fly the plane !
John said , “ Many young people consider aviation something beyond their world . It ’ s not . Our goal is exposure to history as a prelude for the future . We do not press on aviation careers . We do press on the importance of loving what you do and doing it very well . And the kids love the old planes .”
