The grieving process takes time and manifests itself in many different ways. Feelings of depression, loneliness, anger, confusion, anxiety and guilt are all normal parts of this process. Everyone copes with loss in their own way. Some will write letters to the deceased, others will lean on family and friends for support or seek professional help; some will try to do it alone. However the real key to healing is to allow yourself to feel and fall apart from time to time. “The grief which accompanies or follows a loss can be complicated, unpredictable and scary. When you are mourning a loss, it is important to do things for yourself to make you feel comforted,” says Ralph Zentner, owner of Cornerstone Funeral Home Ltd. Ralph and Faith Zentner established Cornerstone Funeral Home Ltd. 24 LETHBRIDGELIVING.COM in Lethbridge in 1995 after several years of working at another funeral home. They were joined by their two sons, Chad and Travis, and have served Southern Alberta for more than 20 years. Last November and in honour of their 20th anniversary of service, they hosted their “20 Days of Giving” campaign; providing supplies, volunteer time and funds to various organizations in Lethbridge. Tragically, Faith passed away on November 28th, shortly after this very meaningful and successful venture of which she Faith Zentner gave her heart and soul. During her career, Faith affected the lives of thousands NOV-DEC 2016 of Southern Alberta families, leaving behind a legacy of compassion. As a wife, a mother and a friend, her passing was met with a deep mourning from the lives she touched. Moved by the community’s outpouring of condolence after Faith’s passing, Ralph, Chad and Travis chose to honour her memory by continuing to serve others through their own grief and offer the personal care and services that Faith believed in providing. Now, a year later, the Zentners and the staff at Cornerstone are offering a gift to bring comfort to those who have also lost a loved one. For many, the holiday season brings these feelings of sorrow, bubbling to the surface and can be one of the most painful times of the year. Often grief can seem as though it has renewed during the holidays and as the seasons change from one year to
