The series is based on the theory that there is an alternate universe where all the characters of classic tales exist.
Emma Swan works as a bounty hunter. On his twenty-eighth birthday Emma is meet by a 10 year old boy who claims to be his son, Henry, who had given up for adoption as a baby. Emma brings him back home, in Storybrooke.
Henry says the time is stopped in Storybrooke and that people are unable to leave the village, Emma break the curse because is the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming. A sceptical Emma takes Henry to his adoptive mother, the mayor, who is really the Evil Queen. When Henry flee again Emma finds him and decides to stay in Storybrooke for a week. This decision causes the hands of the clock of the town hall, before stopping, moving again.
All inhabitants are storybook characters, and only Henry knows, the others don’t believe it.
