SPORTS CORNER
“Touchdown Lions!” the announcer announced indicating what the crowd already knew. The Lithia Springs Lions’ actually won a game. Lithia Springs Comprehensive High School does not have a long history of actually winning games, but on this specific night, they did it. When I cheered for that high school, we, as in the cheerleading team as well as the crowd of onlookers, got used to seeing our roaring team lose tragically on more than one occasion. That may sound bad, but the game had to be viewed for there to be an understanding.
Now do not misinterpret the losing streak the high school had for bad fortune, although it was, they did not treat it as so. To the Lithia Springs Lions’ this losing only meant more to them. More practicing, more dedication, more determination, and more high spirits. Because in this game, you cannot let the other team so you down. They use that as a weakness. Oddly enough, that mindset worked, for about three games. Something about these Lions’ just did not want to win, and that was evident. If you sat and watched their practices, they were always hurt and out of shape. They did not have the motivation no matter how hard the cheerleading team as well as the county of Lithia Springs tried and also, the team just did not like each other. How can you have a team without teamwork? They had no connection on the field and off, and that showed problems.
Like all good things, football season came to an end leaving the Lithia Springs Lions’ with the worst football season of the county. Nether less that was okay. The county had other sports to look forward too. Like baseball season, they won a majority of all of their games.
They also had volleyball, who were the region and state champions and like the supporters they were, they went to football games, cheerleading competitions, track meets, soccer games, and supported the teams to victory, had there been one, happily and willingly.
