A Message From Marc H. Morial, President and
CEO of the National Urban League
Dear Friends,
As we gather this week for the 2015
National Urban League Conference in
South Florida, the nation is experiencing
what may be the most intense focus
in decades on economic inequality,
educational equity and racial justice. The
National Urban League’s “Save Our Cities:
Education, Jobs & Justice” conference
features sessions and activities built
around the Urban League Movement’s
agenda to address the challenges of
unemployment, educational inequity,
and social injustice with FREE activities to
empower the entire family!
In addition to exciting exhibits in
our expo hall, the Conference features
free screenings for the entire family
and useful tips and demonstrations in
the Health & Wellness Zone, part of the
N.U.L. Experience Expo. Other highlights
include a free College Fair, Career and
Networking Fair and a one-day Small
Business Matters Entrepreneurship
Conference – with a chance at $10,000 in
prizes. Dozens of programming experts
will develop a social justice application
during the TechConnect Hack-a-thon.
Occupying a singular echelon
in America’s cultural and political
discourse the National Urban League
Conference is the nation’s largest civil
rights and social justice conference,
attracting thousands of the nation’s
most influential community leaders, top
policy-makers, academicians, business
leaders and artists for three days of
dynamic dialogue, intellectual exchange
and community service.
We look forward to you joining us for
an empowering time!
Sincerely,
Marc H. Morial

Welcome to Broward County!
Our community is excited and grateful
for the opportunity to host the 2015
National Urban League Conference
Save Our Cities: Education, Jobs &
Justice in the beautiful City of Greater
Fort Lauderdale. We know our visitors
will enjoy the sun, fun and beauty of
South Florida, as well as the hospitality,
generosity and friendliness of our
residents.
Bringing the National Urban League
Conference to Broward County means so
much to our community.
For us at the Urban League of
Broward County, it represents all of
our hard work in the past 40 years in
transforming the lives of individuals and
families by giving them opportunities to
pull themselves out of all the hardships
associated with poverty. We’ve earned
a national reputation for creating a
fair shot at success for thousands of
people by providing access to lifechanging employment and education
opportunities and quality housing and
health care services.
In all, our programs impact
thousands of families every year.
We can do even better. We recently
launched our “Breaking the Cycle”
of poverty campaign to raise funds,
increase volunteerism, and create more
awareness of the social and economic
needs facing Broward County. Our goal
is to reach many more people through
services and programs every year.
Attracting the Conference to Broward
County is also a culmination of our work
in building partnerships. Dozens of
public and private partners across our
region, including the Urban League of
Broward County, are working together
to address juvenile arrests, foreclosure,
infant mortality, and so many other
crippling factors that have held back
so many people. We believe we are a
model for our nation.
The Board of Broward County
Commissioners, City of Fort Lauderdale,
Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention
& Visitors Bureau, and TD Bank –
these are among our many partners
and sponsors who have enabled us
to do so much locally, and have now
given our community the opportunity
to participate in the National Urban
League conference.
It’s a big year for us at Urban
League of Broward County. In addition
to hosting the Conference, we’re
celebrating our 40th anniversary of
serving our community. That’s 40
years of providing the unemployed
or underemployed access to job
readiness skills and good jobs;
giving our young people access to
educational opportunities; offering
families services to buy homes, stay in
their homes or qualify for rentals; and
getting children and adults access to
vital health care resources.
At the National Urban League
Conference, all of our great work will
be on display. Attendees will see that
Broward County is a diverse and vibrant
cross-section of cultures where people
from all backgrounds work together to
address our toughest challenges.
Enjoy the Conference!
