LEEK LAUNCHES FIRST FO
N
ow becoming a renowned hub for quality dining establishments, its selection of traditional, real ale pubs sited alongside more contemporary, modern bars, coupled with a growing reputation for top-notch locally produced fare, makes Leek the perfect location to hold a Food and Drink Festival. Taking place next year on the weekend of March 15th and 16th, organisers are already gearing up for a fantastic event featuring a whole host of food makers, exhibitors, talks, demonstrations, films, hot food stalls, a beer tent and lots of activities for people to take part in throughout the town centre and in the grounds of Foxlowe Arts Centre. Although 2014 will be the first time Leek has hosted a Food and Drink festival, the foundations for the event are based in Leek’s fine food market and the monthly Totally Locally Sunday Supplement which already attract some of the best local food producers. The event is truely in safe hands organised by representatives of local groups; Totally Locally Leek, Simply Staffordshire, Cottage Delight and Titanic Brewery, all of which have a real interest and passion in what’s being produced in Leek and the local area. Thanks to generous sponsorship from Taste of Staffordshire, Sainsbury’s, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and Leek Town
Council it is hoped Leek Food and Drink Festival will become a regular fixture on the town’s ever growing social calendar. The weekend of the festival, March 15th and 16th, is the third of the month coinciding with the town’s monthly fine food market in the market place which already features such gastronomic delights as local meats, cheese makers, brewers, chutney, jam and preserves, sauces, oils, pies, bakers and of course the infamous Staffordshire Oatcake. This will mean that in addition to the 30 plus stalls who already regularly attend there will be a marquee with a further 40 stalls, hot food vendors and a beer tent in the grounds of the Foxlowe, another 15 stalls in Leek’s new public space, Sparrow Park, and many other stalls sited through the streets of the town centre, linking the whole festival with the permanent food outlets, pubs, restaurants, cafes and independent shops. Events already in the pipeline for the festival include: •Titanic Brewery and Slightly Foxed Totally Locally beer swap in the beer tent - Th ?? ?????????????????????????????Q?????? ???????????????????????????????Q??????1??????????????Q????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????M????? ??????
