CHRISTMAS SHOPPING
B
usinesses based in two of Leek’s most popular
shopping streets are joining forces to host a
special Christmas shopping event set to take
place at the end of November.
The
owners of the array of wonderful
independent businesses situated in the Stanley
Street and Sheepmarket area of the town are
getting into the festive spirit early by jointly
hosting the event which is hoped will not only
promote their shops but will give something back
to the community by way of supporting a very
worthy cause.
It was felt by the group organising the
Christmas shopping evening that this would be the
ideal opportunity to inject a shot of festive feel
good factor into the town at a time which can often
become fraught and busy with the trappings of
modern day life and the added extra pressures of
approaching holidays.
The aim of the event is to put the focus onto a
much more worthy cause by raising money for a
local charity, Jo’s Dreams.
Joanne Horobin died of Kidney failure on 3rd
August 2011 when she was just 48 years old. It was
Jo’s last wish to help others who are going through
a similar experience as she did with her kidney
failure. Jo wanted to give a terminally or seriously
ill person a release from their normal routine
which can often be dictated by painful or intrusive
treatments such as dialysis. Money raised by Jo’s
Dreams helps to provide a special experience to
someone facing a life limiting illness. These
experiences range from a day out at the zoo, a night
out at a concert or a day at the sea side.
Jo wanted people to have an experience that
would create a fantastic family memory for them
and their loved ones which is why it has been
chosen by organisers to support. It is hoped money
raised from the Christmas Shopping evening will
help a local person experience one of these
fantastic opportunities, turning their dreams into a
reality.
As one of the shop keepers added: “This will be
a lovely Christmas treat for someone and surely
what the true meaning of Christmas is all about.
“We may all be striving to run businesses in
difficult financial times but we want to be able to
help and give a bit back rather than simply making
money during this profitable period in our retail
calendar.”
Between 14 and 16 businesses have signed up
to take part in the event which is set to take place
on Thursday 28th November with the fW7F?f?F?W0???6???r?fbBW??B'V????rV?F????3???F?R&WF??W'2'F?6?F??r?fR???VFvVBF??F??FRR?bF?V?"F???w2??F?R??v?BF?F?P?6?&?G?2vV??2'V????r&ff?Rv?F????bF?P?&??W2F??FVB'?F?R'W6??W76W27W'&V?F??F?F???r&WGvVV?*3?B*3S?F?6?WG2v???&P?f??&?R??F?R'V?WF?F?R??v?BB??F?R6??0??B6fW2F???r'B2vV??2??F?RWfV???rF??&V??v?fRF?RgV?G&?6??rVff?'G2&?rW6???&Wf??W2?V'2F?R??FWV?FV?B&WF??W'2???F??2&V?fR?&v??6VBF?V?"?v?6W&FR6?&?G??WfV?G22vV??2f&??W2fW7F?fR6????rWfV???w0?'WBF??2?V"?fRFV6?FVBF?????f?&6W2?B'??v?&???rF?vWF?W"??RF?&V????RF?ffW&V?6P?F?F??2v?'F????6?6W6R??F?RGv?f??BfW7F?f?F?W26V?V'&FR??F?B?2v??@?&?WB6????r??6???Bv????V?7W?'BF?P?V6?????bF?RF?v?( ?2??FWV?FV?B6??2v???P?7W7F??W'2?BF?RG&FW'2&?F?vWBF?V?"6??6RF??F?F?V?"&?Bf?"6?&?G???B?2?6???VBF?GG&7@?6??W'2v??W&?2v?&?GW&??rF?RF??@?F??( ?B?v?2?fRF?RF??RF?'&?w6R&?V?BF?P?&VWF?gV?'&??b6??2??F??2&V???VV??fR??fV?&W"?FV6V?&W"#2???
