COUNTRY AND WESTERN WEEKEND
otion for a Western
no other
descend upon the town to join in and enjoy the
weekend’s celebrations - which are all being staged
for FREE!
During his life, 53 year old Steve, was well
known for his involvement in organising many
events in Leek as well as campaigning for local
causes he felt passionately about. As a Leek man
through and through, the father of two was always
focused on the community and supported the
growth and success of the town he lived in and
loved, by encouraging visitors and tourists through
events, viewing them as wonderful opportunities to
show what Leek is capable of and what the town has
to offer.
The staging of Leek’s first ever Country and
Western Weekend is already being billed as possibly
one of the biggest events the town has ever staged,
as well as one of the largest culminations of Country
and Western culture in the country.
Inspired by Steve’s oatcake connections, the
theme for this ‘party for the people’ was decided on
as ‘Gunfight at the Oatcake Corral’ with activities set
to be held in the town centre and Brough Park.
The weekend starts on the Saturday morning in
the town centre with country music, line dancing
displays and lessons for those who wish to learn,
along with members of the formidable Lonestar ReEnactment Group and the Lincoln County
Regulators patrolling the town in full Western
regalia before heading off to the park where a full
blown authentic western town will have been
erected. See how the Homesteaders and Settlers in
the mid 1800s lived, with cooking displays and rug
making and watch the spectacular live ‘shoot outs’
and re-enactments throughout the weekend.
