Portraits of women : #Metoo Rose

McGowan

Ambre, Clara

A figurehead of the #MeToo movement, Rose McGowan denounced the actions of producer Harvey Weinstein long before the media outburst. Because she had this courage, the actress, already battered by life, saw her career put on hold ... before regaining control and reinventing herself as an author, musician, documentary filmmaker and director.

This actress is one of the first women to testify against Harvey Weinstein, a famous movie producer, in the case of sexual assaults on several people. She helped start the #MeToo movement that spread all over the world.

It was on Thursday, October 12, 2017 , in a series of tweets addressed to the founder of Amazon Jeff Bezos, that the American actress dared to speak of "rape". She said : "I told the boss of your studios that HW had raped me. I told him and said it again. He said he had no evidence. I replied that I was the proof. ” She is the fourth woman to use this term after actresses Asia Argento, Lucia Evans and another woman who remained anonymous.

The actress became an important and active figure of feminism, involved in various campaigns for women's rights, and a spokesperson on social networks of women victims of gender-based and sexual violence, and creating her own feminist movement under the hashtag

of #RoseArmy.

Rose McGowan unfortunately did not wait to cross Harvey Weinstein's path to experience her first trauma. After growing up in a pedophile sect, the Children of God, with which her family ended up distancing itself, the young Rose had to flee from a violent father.

But what’s #MeToo and what does it mean ?

#MeToo is a movement created by social networks ten years ago thanks to a feminist activist named Tarana Bruke to denounce sexual harassment.

In 2017, Alyssa Milano picked up this hashtag again to relate that she was a victim of sexual assaults by Harvey Weinstein in Hollywood. This movement encouraged women to denounce their abusers and to increase their freedom of speech. #MeToo became quickly viral and women started to talk about their experiences. Actresses, singers, dancers, employees ... were free to speak thanks to Twitter and free to express themselves.

Rose McGowan is very brave and daring. She carried on regardless of society, pressure and shame of her own body to liberate her speech and at the same time women’s speech. She built a new way to denounce abusers anonymously and encourage women to piece themselves back together, to start living again.
