Bird Hike Ages 8 and Up
Join Konnie Her , naturalist and avid bird watcher , at Maplewood Nature Center for a guided bird watching hike . The hikes are held monthly and each month you will discover different birds calling the nature center home and others just passing through on their migration flight . Binoculars will be available for use or bring your own . This is a great opportunity to share quality and educational time with a special youth in your life as those ages eight and above are welcome when accompanied by an adult . Trekking the Trails
Each destination provides new sights , sounds , fresh air , exercise and camaraderie . Plan on 60-75 minutes of guided walking and stopping with limited sitting . Trails can be uneven and are natural surface , not always paved . Bring water and wear good walking shoes or hiking boots . Binoculars , sunglasses , bug spray , suntan lotion , and trekking poles are optional . Meet in the parking lot for an 8:30 am start . Please pre-register for each hike so we know how many to expect . There is no fee for the hikes but please plan on a free will gratuity for the guide . Participants must be ages 18 and above . Eastern Bluebird Nesting Walk
Bluebird populations were declining greatly from the 1930s to the 1960s , but thanks to local organizations such as the Bluebird Recovery Program of Minnesota , they are thriving . Learn how to identify the bluebird , their call , migration , nesting habits , the bluebird house project , and help the instructor with his weekly bluebird count . This time of the year , they should even have eggs in their nests ! Learn how you can build houses that will bring bluebirds to your backyard . Please note : you will be walking on unpaved surfaces . A portion of your registration will go to the Gateway Browns Creek Trail Association ( GBCTA ) to help with the bluebirds . Dennis Lindeke
