Experience Caponi Art Park
Now is your chance to break the number one museum rule of “ don ’ t touch the art .” Caponi Art Park , located in Eagan , is the setting for this unique opportunity to experience art with all of your senses . Your day will include two art workshops selected to teach you a new skills while exploring the natural world . A walking tour reveals 16 of the 35 plus sculptures by Anthony Caponi , sculptor , former Macalester College art department chair , professor and park founder . Enjoy a box lunch under the park picnic shelter .
Workshop 1 : Nature Journal , Basic Bookmaking Learn a basic bookbinding technique as you create a nature journal prior to your park tour . Then on the tour you ’ ll be encouraged to make rubbings and take notes on your observations and experiences in the park .
Workshop 2 : Sun Printing Gather natural materials on your tour then arrange them on light-sensitive paper and watch the sun work its magic . Your sun print will be an eye-catching , one-of-a-kind masterpiece . Because bright sunlight is required for this workshop , an alternate seed mosaic workshop is planned should the weather not cooperate .
The guided walking tour is on gravel paths , is approximately ¾ mile in length and lasts about an hour . There will be periodic stopping and standing but no seating is available . A limited number of golf cart spots are available for the tour . Because these spots are limited , they are ONLY for those who will not be able to walk / stand , and must be reserved ahead of time by calling the office at 651-748-7250 . Golf cart spots cannot be reserved online . Accompanying friends / family will need to attend the walking tour .
Tour leaves Gladstone at 8:30 am and returns to the same location at approximately 3:30 pm . Fee includes school bus transportation , two art workshops and supplies , guided tour , and picnic lunch . Please dress accordingly as this event will be held rain or shine . Cancellation policy : a $ 15 processing fee will be deducted from your refund when cancelling before June 16 . No refunds after this date .
