Learning Communities at Texas State University - Newsletters Volume 1, 2013-2014 | Page 2

Business Learning Community Newsletter spring 2014 Selected Events Get ‘er Done: The BLC joined Mr. Ross Wood from Career Services on Feb 25 to learn about resume building. Kiss, Bow, Shake Hands: Mr. Kenyon Wilson from the McCoy Advising Center taught the LC how various cultures greet each other professionally. Thanks Kenyon! Tour of McCoy Corporate Headquarters The BLC did their annual tour of the McCoy Corporation in November. It was beneficial to have the Career Services events prior to the outing (Dress for Success and Portfolio Presentations) so the residents had time to plan outfits and get into a professional mindset. Etiquette Dinner: Residents learned how to dine in a professional setting with renowned etiquette professional Diane Gottsman. Volunteering: BLC residents divided into four teams (accounting, finance, marketing, management) to participate in Bobcat Build on March 29. On April 11, 20 residents from the BLC joined forces with several student organizations from McCoy to fundraise for Relay for Life. Resident Spotlight: Leah Porterfield The learning community was so much fun. Interacting with other business students in Tower was very beneficial and rewarding. I made met my best friends for life in the LC! In the fall of 2013, the Business LC had 16 residents earn a 3.0 to 3.49 and 8 residents on the Dean’s List. Way to go! Special thanks to Resident Assistants Amber Brown and Patrick Guerra for two great years with the BLC! We appreciate all your work and wish you the best as you move toward your next adventures. Welcome to Audrey Cull and Matthew Young, new LC RAs for 2014-2015!
