Historical overview of EADS
In 1996, California was undergoing a dramatic change in student, family and community composition. ACSA made a commitment to address the educational needs
of all students by creating a Diversity/Equal
Educational Opportunity Committee. The
team developed a position statement that
illustrated data and beliefs about the role of
teachers, administrators, families and communities in meeting the needs of all students.
In 2002, the newly named Equity, Achievement and Diversity for Success Committee,
in collaboration with the Curriculum, Instruction and Evaluation Committee, developed a position paper that highlighted the
beliefs of ACSA with relation to diversity. In
2012, the committee created SMART Goals
and an action plan in order to demonstrate
actions to support the beliefs in the seven
areas highlighted in the position paper. The
plan is designed to be a living document that
can be systematically implemented regard-
