Stronger Together: Why Every Pastor Needs a Place to Be Refreshed

Pastor Jim Graff

Years ago, I learned something about ministry that I wish I had understood much earlier: you can be surrounded by people every week and still feel alone.
Pastors spend their lives caring for others. We pray with families in crisis, prepare messages, develop leaders, solve problems, and carry a vision for the future. We celebrate births, perform weddings, visit hospital rooms, and walk with families through grief. It is a beautiful calling, but it can also be a heavy one.
Most people see what happens on Sunday. They do not always see what a pastor carries on Monday.
That is one reason the Significant Church Retreat means so much to me. It is more than another event on the calendar. It is a place where pastors and ministry leaders can step away from the constant demands of leadership, breathe again, build meaningful friendships, and receive the kind of encouragement they are usually giving to everyone else.
From February 8 through February 10, 2027, we will gather at Naples Church in Naples, Florida, for our annual Significant Church Retreat. My prayer is that every leader who comes will return home refreshed, strengthened, and reminded that they do not have to fulfill God’ s call alone.
You Are More Than What You Produce
Leadership has a way of making us measure our lives by visible results. We look at attendance, giving, salvations, volunteers, and programs. Those things matter, but they can never tell the whole story of a leader’ s life.
