As parents , our goal when our children sin is simple — restoration . Whether they ’ ve sinned against us or against someone else , restoration and reconciliation is always our intent . In fact , whether we think our children ’ s misbehavior was caused by their immaturity or by their sinful inclinations , our response won ’ t actually change . We ’ ll connect and correct , clarify the path to reconciliation , and teach them how to show up better next time . We can do all of that with gentleness , not harshness — just as our heavenly Father does for us .
