suffering. This was Paul, who had been beaten and shipwrecked, left for dead and imprisoned. He knew trouble. And He tells us that God will work it all together for our good.
Most people stop reading that passage at the end of verse 28 with a simple hope that somehow all the bad things in their life will turn out good. But to fully understand the text, you have to read it in context. Paul first says that God causes all things to work together for the good of those who love God. But he continues,“ For God knew His people in advance and He chose them to become like his Son”( Rom. 8:29, NIV, emphasis added). What is the good God is working toward? To make us more like Jesus. To shape us into the image and character of Christ.
