everything in the world differently .
“ What do you want ? . . . Come and see ,” Jesus says , because Jesus wants your eyes .
Because : what you gaze on is what you fall in love with .
Stare at screens and streams long enough and all you can fall in love with is an image of self or stuff . But beholding Him always leads to following Him .
The passion of the Lamb ultimately asks , What do you really want most ?
Do you want the things that will fade or the things that are forever ? Do you want the
expendable things or the eternal things ? Do you want the things that will fill the hollows in you with stress or serenity ? The second hand of every clock claps , claps , claps it : What do you want ? What do you want ? What do you want ?
Isn ’ t our deepest wanting always for things otherworldly ?
Who merely wants what glitters and shimmers and blows away , sparkling flecks in the wind ? The heart longs for the things of solidity for all eternity , the rock-steady things that will anchor you in any headwind and will survive fire , flame , and all evil ’ s ferocity . This is a world of loves , but there is only one love that can be soul-sustenance , only one
