Straight Talk about Your Church

Dr . Robert Jeffress

A FATHER TOOK HIS SON TO CHURCH because he wanted his boy to know about the love and grace of Jesus . However , when they arrived at the service and sat down in the pew , the one squirming wasn ’ t the little boy ; it was the father . He was impatient for the service to start . During the service , the father grumbled that he didn ’ t like the songs they sang , the soloist was off-key , and the sermon was too long .
Once church was over , the father said a cuss word or two about the heat and the traffic as he drove to a restaurant for lunch . When they arrived at the restaurant , he fussed about how slow the server was in taking their order . And when his meal arrived , he fumed that the server got his order wrong . Once his order was corrected , he turned to his son and said , “ Bow your head , son , so we can thank God .” His son bowed his head and listened to his father pray : “ Heavenly Father , we thank You for the service this morning at church . We thank You for our pastor . Bless him . Thank You , Father , for this meal . Bless those who prepared and served it . Please use it to strengthen our bodies that we might continue to serve You and be a blessing to others . Amen .”
The little boy said “ Amen ” too . But before diving into his French fries , he asked , “ Daddy , did God hear you at church when you fussed about the hymns and the woman who sang and the preacher ?”
The father , a little embarrassed , said , “ Well , yes , son , God heard me .”
